Associate Professor

Associate Professor Catherine Slade trained with the legendary Kristen Linklater, and was a founding member of the ‘Working Theater’ New York City with Joe Chaikin, Peter Kass and Kristen Linklater.  Vocal coach for over 50 production, she has also taught at multiple institutions and universities including; New York Shakespeare Festival, Public Theater, NYC, Arena Stage; Frederick Douglas Creative, Neighborhood Playhouse; New York University, Tisch School of the Arts; Hunter College, The School of the Art Institute; Rutgers University; American University; University of Hawaii, Harvard University, The Harvard Women Group with Carol Gilligan; University of Chicago and others.  As founder and Artistic Director of New York-based ‘Manhattan Bridge Company’ she produced programs with Morgan Freeman, Danny Glover, Delroy Lindo, Samuel Jackson, Carmen DeLavalade and Keith David.
 
Favorite performances include the title role of Lulu directed by Lee Breuer at American Repertory Theater, Harvard University lauded in 1990 by the New York Times as the best experimental theater production of the 80s.  She also played the title role of Henry V with Kristen Linklater, and Carol Gilligan’s The Company of Women at Harvard University, Emerson University, and University of Maine; Antigone in the internationally acclaimed Gospel at Colonu at, Washington Square Church, NYC and Goodman Theater, Chicago. Catherine played leading roles with The Negro Ensemble Company.  Catherine was privileged to work with the original cast of and Saturday Night Live.
 
While Catherine’s training and vocation is in theater she has throughout her career continued studying voice, movement and imaging techniques for transformational growth. She is deeply committed to educational work in the correctional community, and works nationally with Advance Trial Advocacy Programs.  She directs the Actor Training Program for Mock Trials at the University of Chicago Law School.

Catherine studied acupuncture at the Midwest School of Oriental Medicine and Dance Movement Therapy at Columbia College Chicago; she has practiced Wuji Qi Gong for the past 25 years.
