The International Programs office has identified dynamic Arts and Media institutions in various countries who share Columbia's mission and vision. We work closely with these institutions by regularly visiting their campuses and, in conjunction with Columbia faculty and departments, collaborate with their faculty to develop student exchanges.
These exchanges are geared for students who are more advanced in their course work (third year students, juniors). We recommend that students, even at the freshman level think about preparing for an exchange: for example, by studying a foreign language. The specific requirements and prerequisites are determined on a program-by-program basis and tailored to the students' focus of study. Some programs may require a portfolio as part of the application process.
Exchange programs are designed to be within the financial reach of students attending Columbia. Exchange students continue to pay tuition to Columbia (the host institution waives its tuition and fees); therefore the total cost -- excluding airfare -- is comparable to the costs incurred by a full-time Columbia student living on campus.
