Virtual Symposium

April 22-23, 2009

This symposium is a collaboration between Columbia College Chicago and the Dublin Institute of Technology.

It is a platform for scholars and artists around the world to discuss and express their ideas about the many ways in which wealth is being created and how it is changing the fabric of both local and global communities.

Definitions of wealth from the 20th century have evolved into new 21st century forms, bringing along new meanings, new connotations, new purveyors and accompanying implications, including disparities between the classes, worker exploitation, massive migration, environmental degradation, spiritual redefinitions, and cultural and political unrest.

The core of the symposium will take place across multiple time zones and cultures from April 22-23, 2009 at Columbia College Chicago.  However, the conversations that are generated will be ongoing in a virtual space.  The varied formats (blogs, discussion boards, video streaming, text and digital downloads) allow for diverse and multi-layered participation from around the world.
