Hey Advisor!
Question: I went to the commencement ceremony on May 12th and had a blast, but I only got my diploma cover. When do I get my diploma?
-Outta Here
Dear Outta: I know that commencement was a good time, but you may not be finished with us yet. In order for you to receive your diploma you must have your degree posted in OASIS and have a paid balance with Student Financial Services.
Degree Posting Process
Well, lets start at the beginning here. The graduation audit process starts with a Graduation Application. You must have filled out a graduation application if you went to the ceremony. If you didn't, and you intend to graduate this year, come in to the College Advising Center and fill one out immediately. When the semester ends, your instructors have two weeks to turn in all of their grades. Once all the grades are in advisors receive fresh transcripts for all students that applied to graduate. College Advisors then have two weeks to complete their audits (basically checking to make sure you have fulfilled all the degree requirements) and turn them into the Graduation Audit Advisor, who finalizes the audit and posts the degree on the paper transcript. The paper transcripts are then brought to the Records office to post on OASIS.
Make sure your balance is paid.
Simply put: You cannot owe the college any money and expect to get your diploma. That includes any unpaid tuition, fees, library fines, etc. To find out if you have an unpaid balance check your Course & Fee Statement on your OASIS portal. To make a payment on campus, go to the Cashier's window on the 3rd floor of 600 S. Michigan Ave. If you have an unpaid balance, the college will still verify graduation by phone/fax even though you cannot receive your diploma or official transcript.
