Academic Scheduling Policies

Class Scheduling Polices

Class session length

1. The last ten minutes of every class period is transition time; i.e., a one hour class meets for fifty minutes; a one and one-half hour class meets for eighty minutes; a two hour class meets for one hour and fifty minutes, and so on.

Class times

2. All class sessions begin at the published uniform start times (UST).

3. All class sessions end at the published uniform end times (UET) of twenty minutes or fifty minutes past the hour.

4. Exceptions to the UST's or UET's are made when there is a compelling need that has minimal impact on room use or student scheduling. The college goal is 100% compliance with the uniform class schedule and, therefore, exceptions are rare.

Scheduling non-class activities

5. All activities that are not regularly scheduled class sessions are only scheduled in R25. They are not scheduled in OASIS as class sessions.

6. The priorities for scheduling teaching spaces are: 1) classes; 2) class related activities such as tutoring, and class exercises; and 3) all other events.

Responsibility and Authority

7. The Vice-President for Campus Environment has the responsibility and authority for all space use and scheduling.

8. The Space Manager/Scheduler has the responsibility and authority for room scheduling on behalf of the Vice-President of Campus Environment.

9. The Space Manager/Scheduler is the contact for all room scheduling issues, including requests for exceptions to the uniform class schedule.

10. Room scheduling polices are set by Campus Environment in consultation with the Office of the Provost and, as appropriate, with other divisions of the college.

11. The Space Manager/Scheduler has the authority to grant exceptions to the uniform class schedule. In the event that the Space Manager/Scheduler cannot resolve a request for an exception, Campus Environment consults with the Office of the Provost or other appropriate offices of the college.
