Marketing & Communications Team
In support of the mission of the Office of Institutional Advancement and as a steward of the institutional brand, the department of Marketing and Communication enhances awareness of and appreciation for the college among external and internal constituencies. We do so by engaging in a coordinated program of paid and unpaid communication, by introducing initiatives that foster integrated marketing and communication across the institution, and by embracing appropriate technologies and best practices that improve the effectiveness of institutional communication.

James is a 2005 graduate of Columbia's Interdisciplinary Arts graduate program. Much of his work explores the theory that gender identity is of a performative nature. His work frequently takes form through costume construction, performance, sound and installation. He is currently working on a few new projects, one of which involves the documentation and cataloguing of his entire wardrobe. When not busy at Columbia he can either be found strapped in spandex cycling up and down the lakefront, stitching something fabulous while seated in front of his vintage Singer, or just carousing and causing mischief. While Chicago is certainly home, James grew up in semi-rural Kansas. It is believed that his dry sense of humor comes from his enduring exposure to the subtle hills and horizons of the Kansas landscape. He earned a BA degree in Art Education and Fine Art from Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas, where he is proud to say (with a wink) that he was a Liberace Foundation scholar.
