Asha Spencer is an associate at Bartlit Beck Herman Palenchar & Scott LLP. She is a recent graduate of the University of Chicago Law School, where she was an active participant in the law school community. Asha served as an Academic Counselor, was a member of The Law Review, and provided legal representation to indigent criminal defendants through the Mandel Legal Aid Clinic. During her time in law school Asha worked for the Department of Justice in Washington D.C., for Skadden Arps in New York, and for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in Vienna, Austria.
Prior to attending law school, Asha worked for the Speaker of the Illinois House of Representatives. As a senior legislative and appropriations analyst she oversaw budgets totaling $8 billion and served as the chief staffer for four standing House committees. Asha also spent one year as a project manager for an HIV prevention initiative in Nairobi, Kenya.
Raised in Chicago, Asha attended both elementary and high school in the city, and has worked at a number of different community development organizations in Chicago, including the Organization of the Northeast (ONE), Woodlawn East Communities and Neighbors (WECAN), and the Institute of Cultural Affairs.
Asha earned her Bachelor of Arts with honors from Carleton College.
