Virtual Beat Cafe on Second Life

and the Beats go on online
http: iam.colum.edu/beatcafe

As part of Columbia College Chicago’s celebration of the Beats, a virtual space for events held in tandem with the college’s Beat Café space will be held on the Interactive Arts & Media Department’s Second Life online region, I AM Columbia Island.  Serving as a virtual representation of the on-campus festivities, with planned schedule information, literature, and performances, the Virtual Beat Café will be the College’s Second Space for the Beats.

How do I get there?
First, Download the Second Life client from www.secondlife.com and go through the avatar creation process.  Next, click on the “Search” button and type in “I AM Columbia” in the search box, and a landmark will come up.  Open this and use the “Teleport” button to get there.  Currently we have the Manifest complex, the Columbia Public Transit System, and student exhibitions, and many other attractions.  During the Summer of 2008, the Beat Café will begin construction in the Northwest Quadrant alongside the Retreat Pavilion.

If you have any questions, in-world, please contact Man Michinaga (Patrick Lichty), or Ti Mosienko (Andy Oleksiuk).
