Associate Provost for Creative Technology Strategy 

Dr. Insook Choi joined Columbia College Chicago as the Associate Provost for Creative Technology Strategy in 2012. She was founding Director of the Emerging Media Technologies Program at City University of New York, an interdisciplinary program for bridging design, engineering, and computing skills for digital and new media. She was also a Professor in the Doctoral Faculty of Computer Science at the CUNY Graduate Center.

She received the Doctor of Musical Arts in 1995 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a dissertation on her novel interface and system architecture for performances with real time signal processing. She served as a composer in residence and research scientist in the National Center for Supercomputing Applications and Human-Computer Intelligent Interaction group in the Beckman Institute of Advance Sciences and Technology at UIUC. Other institutes where she held positions include UC Berkeley EEC department as a researcher and Polytechnic Institute of NYU as a visiting professor.

Dr. Choi’s creative works integrate the results of technology research and development into expressive media. Her creative work is performed and broadcast at international venues and her research is published in international journals (IRCAM, the Journal of the Franklin Institute), proceedings (ACM, IEEE, AAAI), and professional association book chapters (Elsevier series Lecture notes in Computer Science, Entertainment Computing). Her teaching areas include Interactive Media, Interaction Design, User Experience Design, Computational Narratives, Games, and various topics in Computational Media including critical and comparative studies in New Media Applications. She has developed numerous pilot courses in interdisciplinary and emerging technologies.
