Grades

Grades are submitted by the faculty at the end of each semester. The college does not mail grade reports. Grades can be viewed on OASIS in the Student Academic Record Portlet by selecting either the Academic Record link, or the Grades link. Be sure to select the correct options for the Grades link. If an instructor has not submitted the class grades, a grade of "NG" (no grade) will appear at the end of the grading period. Students who receive a grade of "NG" should contact the instructor.

Incomplete Grades

An "I" (incomplete) grade is issued when a student makes definite arrangements with the instructor to complete the course work outside class by the end of the eighth week of the next consecutive semester. An agreement specifying work to be completed and a due date must be signed by both instructor and student and approved by the department chair. Grades of "I" automatically convert to "F" (failing) grades if course work is not satisfactorily completed by the end of the semester following the semester in which the grade of "I" was assigned. For this purpose, the summer semester is considered a regular semester. A student may not complete the work for a course in which an "I" grade was received by enrolling in the same class in the next semester.

Pass/Fail (undergraduate only)

The Pass/Fail option for a class, or classes, can be declared by completing a form obtained in the Records Office. The deadline is the end of the fourth week of class, (the end of the first week in the summer semester). The instructor's approval is required. A grade of either "P" or "F" will be awarded for the class. The "P" grade does not affect the grade point average. Once the Pass/Fail form is submitted to the Records Office, this option cannot be reversed.

Repeated Classes

If a student fails a course or fails to earn the minimum grade required to progress to the next course in a sequence or level of a discipline, he may retake the class. The following conditions apply:

  1. Students may retake a course to improve the grade no more than once (total of two attempts).
  2. The retaken course must carry the same number and course content as the original course.
  3. The retaken course is not designated as R (repeatable for additional credit). Credit will only be awarded for the class once.
  4. Only the last grade will be included in the computation of the GPA; however the course title and earlier grade will remain on the student's academic record.
