Dance/Movement Therapy & Counseling, MA
Columbia College Chicago’s Dance/Movement Therapy & Counseling, MA program is geared toward those with a passion for dance and expressive movement, and who also have an interest in mental health and psychology. This profound interweaving of the two disciplines has resulted in one of only six programs nationally approved by the American Dance Therapy Association. Upon completion, students become Registered Dance/Movement Therapists and may be eligible to sit for the Illinois State Licensing Exam to become a Licensed Professional Counselor.

Theory and Research
Students are guided to develop a solid theoretical foundation in counseling, psychotherapy, dance/movement therapy, movement assessment, and group therapy. They learn to assess, diagnose, and treat a variety of patients and develop an understanding of contemporary research methods and the professional, legal, and ethical responsibilities of a dance/movement therapist. Each student completes an independent thesis project that demonstrates his or her ability to creatively integrate theory, existing professional literature, and research methods learned in the classroom.

Students also gain hands-on experience by completing fieldwork, and internships.
