We know there are a lot of film schools that will show you how to use the equipment and tools of filmmaking. We want you to know, however, that at Columbia we’ll do that and so much more. Yes, we’ll put you to work in our new, state-of-the-art Media Production Center, which includes soundstages, a motion-capture studio, projection theaters, image compositing labs, editing suites, audio suites, and digital finishing labs. But you’ll also study film history, aesthetics, and concept development. Because we’re not here to just show you how to use equipment—we’re here to help you tell stories through film.
And as soon as you walk in the door that’s what you’ll be doing. You’ll begin collaborating on short films in your very first year and, as your skills as a filmmaker grow, you’ll focus on and explore any one of a wide range of disciplines with our faculty of industry professionals.
