Housing

The deadline to apply for on-campus housing is UPDATE Friday, May 2, 2008  Friday, May 9, 2008.
Mandatory Housing orientation and Move-in day is June 28, 2008.

The bulk of students who participate in HSSI commute to campus from their homes in the Chicagoland area, but we are able to offer a limited number of spaces in on-campus housing for students who live outside of a commutable distance to campus.  Priority for spaces in HSSI housing is given to students who live outside of a commutable distance from Columbia’s campus. Students intending to live in Columbia’s housing must be at least 16 years of age at the time the program begins. Housing is offered through the University Center, which also houses summer college students from Columbia College Chicago, DePaul University and Roosevelt University. The University Center operates a full summer conference schedule as well that provides housing to various professional and educational groups and associations. Housing units for HSSI are clustered together in the University Center, and students are expected to dine together for evening meals.  HSSI students are assigned to Columbia College Chicago Residence Assistants (R.A.’s) who provide support and guidance through the summer living experience.

High school students who wish to live on campus must enroll in a minimum of five credit hours or the Dance Workshop. Students who choose to live on campus are expected to demonstrate maturity and commitment to the educational process and are required to observe all rules and directives associated with the living community. Housing is assigned on a first-come, first-served basis until all available spaces are filled. Because housing is limited, early application is encouraged.

The cost for housing, which includes a meal plan of 10 meals per week + $20.00 in flex money to be used at the student’s discretion, plus a variety of mandatory evening and weekend activities, is $2,250.00.

HOW TO OBTAIN ON-CAMPUS HOUSING

1. Submit an HSSI Admissions Application
   To apply for housing, you must answer “yes” to the question “Are you interested in on-campus housing?” on your on-line HSSI admission application.
2. Wait to receive a Housing Contract
   Students who have indicated that they would like to live on-campus will be mailed a housing contract, until all HSSI housing spaces are filled. Once housing is full, students applying for housing may be placed on a waiting list.
3. Return signed Housing Contract by the date specified with a $1,125.00 prepayment*
   A Contract Packet will be mailed that contains:
   • An HSSI Housing Contract
   • A letter that will establish the date when your signed housing contract must be returned
   • Information about move-in dates and procedures
   • Information on a mandatory Orientation for all HSSI housing students

The $1,125.00 housing prepayment due with your housing contract covers one half of your total housing charges of $2,250.00. The balance of your housing charges must be paid on or before June 6, 2008. Click here for directions on how to pay.

Housing Refund Policy

Should you be unable to attend HSSI, all housing payments are refundable until June 6, 2008. You must submit a request in writing prior to 5:00 PM June 6, 2008 via email to astewart@colum.edu to cancel your contract and to receive a full refund of your housing payment.
