Interactive Arts and Media Courses


Web Animation Project*   

36-0401-41 Tuesday & Thursday, 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM; 2 credits

Using the well-known web-based animation tool, Adobe Flash, students in this course learn to turn motion graphics and animation into engaging interactive media pieces. The course covers basic animation principles, technical issues on the web, and art and design skills. In addition to creating a complete Flash project, students showcase their final work online.
Pre-requisite: Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator experience.

Online Digital Portfolio

This course helps student master fundamental web publishing and design techniques for showcasing a collection of creative work. The course is relevant for a broad range of students from various disciplines, including literary, performance, visual design and digital media arts. Current technologies will be used such as XHTML and CSS. This class is beneficial for those new to web design and those who have an existing online portfolio they wish to enhance.

Survey of Sound for Interactive Media

This course functions as an introduction to sound and music for implementation in computer-based multimedia presentations. Students will learn the basic principles of acoustics, digital theory, sound recording and production. Through a series of audio projects, students will explore aspects of audio production from loop-based music to audio for video.

Games for Change   
36-0410-41 Monday & Wednesday, 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM; 2 credits

This hands-on class emphasizes new creative technologies that allow students to design games and 3D virtual worlds that have direct relevance to everyday experiences, character roles and relationships. Using drag and drop programming tools, participants will create animated stories, avatars and game environments about social, global and gender-based issues with the goal of fostering interactive social change.
