Introduction to the Club DJ   
41-0311-41 Tuesday & Thursday, 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM; 2 credits

This course is taught by an experienced Club DJ and introduces students to fundamental skills such as selecting music, developing a personality for a live audience, using portable equipment such as turntables, CD players, speakers, and microphones, basic mixing, and beat matching. At the end of the semester each student performs a short DJ program.


Introduction to Radio Broadcasting

This course provides on-air experience for students interested in the talent aspect of broadcasting. Students receive hands-on experience in the basic responsibilities of on-air radio talent. This includes learning the theory and operation of a control room, developing and performing a DJ show and writing and delivering on-air commercials, promos, and bits.


Introduction to Radio Production   
41-0415-41 Tuesday and Thursday, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM; 2 credits

This course uses lecture and hands-on projects to familiarize students with the basics of radio production.  Students learn commercial production techniques, including editing, mixing, dubbing and sounds effects.  Students utilize Digital Audio Workstations for in-class projects and studio time facilities for out-of-class assignments.

Introduction to Voiceover

In this class we will talk about voiceover as an occupation and as a part of a radio production career.  We will cover how to read commercial copy, PSAs, industrials, animation and other voiceover opportunities by reading, recording and listening back to get to a believable and natural read.  We will also discuss the business of voiceover, how to audition and how to make a voiceover CD.


Introduction to Audio Theater

The combination of written word, voice acting, sound, silence and music are joined together to create audio theatre. This course gets students into the art of audio theatre with improvisation, vocal warm-ups, brainstorming ideas, writing scripts, reading scripts, listening to successful radio theatre, learning Foley sound creation, choosing pre-recorded sound effects, recording remote sound effects—and finally rehearsing and performing a live class-written and class-produced audio drama.
