JGS Scholarship

Jane Ganet-Sigel is a registered dance movement therapist and one of the 73 founding members of the American Dance/Movement Therapy Assoication.  She is the founder and former chairperson of the graduate program in dance/movement therapy at Columbia College Chicago.  Ganet-Sigel has been a supervisor, teacher, trainer, and private practice therapist.  She has conducted workshops throughout the United States, and in China, Argentina, and Mexico.  She is formerly the Director of the Creative Workshop of Dance and Drama.

Ganet-Sigel has worked in and been a consultant to various hospitals, institutions, mental health agencies, and schools for a variety of patient populations.  She is married to Melvin Sigel and had four children, four step-children, twenty-one grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.  It is with great pleasure that the Dance/Movement Therapy department establishes a scholarship fund in recognition of such an important pioneer.

  • Eligibility:  This scholarship fund will benefit continuing students who are in need of financial assistance in order to pursue their dream of becoming a dance/movement therapist.  Based on merit and need.  Requires an application and a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 in the graduate school.
  • International Students may apply.
  • Amount Award: The amount and number of awards varies depending on funding.  Paid as a check. 
  • Application Requirements:  Apply through the Dance/Movement Therapy department with application, transcripts and statement on the merit and need that demonstrate why you deserve this award.
  • Deadline:  June 28, 2008.  The award is announced at the annual student/faculty dance concert in July.
