October 20th, 2010

The Center for Community Arts Partnerships (CCAP) at Columbia College Chicago congratulates the students, parents, teachers, artists, partners, and staff of the Community Schools Initiative for recently receiving a prestigious national award, the 2010 National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award (formerly called the Coming Up Taller award).

CCAP’s Community Schools Initiative was one of fifteen awardees chosen from a pool of more than 400 nominations. The award is the highest honor in the nation for after-school arts and humanities programs serving children and youth. CCAP’s Community Schools Initiative was chosen to receive the award based on its effectiveness in making a difference in the lives of children and youth.

CCAP’s Community Schools Initiative unites the most important influences in children’s lives – school, family and community – to fully support their learning and development. CCAP partners with Chicago Public Schools to provide comprehensive out-of-school time programs and services that improve students’ academic achievement, enhance their social/emotional development, and engage students and their parents in learning together. CCAP is known as a leader in the field in developing an arts-focused model of Community Schools.
