About ArtUP
ArtUP is the Center for Community Arts Partnerships’ (CCAP) newest college readiness initiative, and is generously supported by Columbia College, the Circle of Service Foundation and Kraft Foods. What makes ArtUP unique is its focus on preparing students for a career in the arts and media. Through participation in ArtUP, students gain access to the numerous resources available at Columbia College Chicago, the largest and most diverse private arts and media college in the nation. This early exposure to a college environment is critical to helping first generation college-bound students attain a career in the arts and media.
ArtUP takes place during the academic year and is available to CPS students grades 8-12 who are interested in a career in the arts and media, or want to enroll in an arts college. Through innovative programming, participants receive the following:
ArtUP embraces Columbia College Chicago’s mission to “author the culture of our times” and “conduct education in close relationship to a vital urban reality by active engagement in the life and culture of the city of Chicago.” It believes that a student’s academic success is dependent upon his ability to see the world beyond his own lens. Fundamental to the academic and personal development of ArtUP students is their expanding awareness of the world and how they decide to contribute to it. To achieve this goal, ArtUP encourages students to embrace Chicago as an extended campus for a comprehensive learning experience.
If you are a CPS student grade 8-12 who is interested in enrolling in ArtUP, please contact the Program Associate. You can also check out the ArtUP courses available for the 2009-2010 academic year.
