AIM Unit Plans

The AIM Unit Plan form is designed to help artists and teachers name and structure their curricular desires. This model promotes project-based learning— defining and naming each step while honoring the emergent and surprising nature of the work. Together, teachers and artists articulate a specific focus and identify questions to guide it. Every week involves a close encounter with text, image and dialogue as students, teachers and artists move toward ideas for final products. We emphasize the pedagogical value of process as much as we appreciate the significance of revised and final artwork, both as objects of celebration and as tools for reflection and critique.

From 2008 to 2012, Project AIM expanded its approach to include a focus on math literacy through funding awarded under the Arts in Education Model Development and Dissemination (AEMDD) grant program from the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Innovation and Improvement. This initiative, Translations: Multi Directional Learning in the Arts, Literacy and Math, takes a closer look at the impact on student learning when concepts and principles are taught and translated across the arts, literacy, and math.
