RFP Released: February 28, 2013*

Proposals due: March 22, 2013

Selections/Awardees announced: April 2013

School Transition: Summer 2013

First day of new school model: August 26, 2013

*Information Sessions will be held from February 28th until the proposal due date of March 22nd.

Proposal Purpose

CCAP is seeking proposals from CPS schools interested in being on the cutting edge of education innovation and use of 21st Century Technologies.  One Chicago Public Schools high school and a feeder elementary school will be selected to become our model Convergence Academies.

In the selected schools, CCAP in partnership with CPS will provide resources such as professional development, teaching artists and media coaches, staff dedicated to media integration, and enhanced technology infrastructure..  

The primary goals of Convergence Academies are as follows:

  • raise student achievement
  • increase technology and media skills that students and teachers need to succeed in the 21stcentury; 
  • build students’ 21st century competencies and college/career readiness skills such as media literacy, critical thinking, and collaboration.

What to Expect

The Convergence Academies Initiative project will reshape school environments and thereby enhance the foundation of a Chicago community.  The ideal candidates would be open to innovation in the classroom and participating in a partnership with Columbia College and CPS to design an instructional model and curriculum that best enhances students' learning and engagement.

Information Sessions

If you are a principal, teacher or parent who is interested in having your school become a Convergence Academy, we offer info sessions open to the public that can be held at your school. The info sessions will cover how the new design would work at your school, how the transition will occur, and what the benefits will be to students, teachers, and the community and are required to be considered a candidate. To request an info session at your school, please email convergenceacademies@colum.edu.
