COLUMBIA COLLEGE, FACULTY ORGANIZATION (CCFO)
Report to the College Council
January 7th, 2005
Report to the College Council
On December 6th, we were able to "share" the Hot House with the Alumni Office. Our event went very well and we would like to again thank the CTE for its generous donation of an iPod (which was won by Tania Giordani from the Science & Mathematics Department). CCFO also hosted its first lunch in collaboration with the Provost's Office on December 14th and it was well attended. The Faculty Liaison to the Board of Trustees Committee met on December 7th and will again meet on January 18th.
We are currently tabulating our survey results and will soon post them electronically. To date, faculty concerns deal most with reduction in teaching load, reducing non-teaching workload and issues of salary.
The Retreat Committee has issued a call for proposals for the All-College Retreat in August 2005. Please send your retreat session proposals by February 11th to Shawn Shiflett. Planning continues for a CCFO/ PFAC/ Staff town hall meeting on Civility in the Workplace. We hope to have this event in early to mid-February. CCFO has also formed an ad hoc committee to discuss faculty-hiring issues. We hope to meet with the Provost soon to note these concerns. We would also like to thank Alicia Berg for her willingness to look at the state of physical facilities around the college. We hope that faculty concerns will be heeded and necessary repairs are made as soon as possible.
CCFO officers will be meeting with the President and Provost on January 27th to discuss a variety of issues, including the proposed reduction in teaching load.
Our next Hot House event will be this upcoming Monday from 5:30-7:30 and will feature the musical talents of David Dolak (Science Institute) and George Bailey (English) from Acoustic Kitchen.
In addition, we are still very concerned about the recent changes in advising of students and the lack of consultation with faculty by the Deans in making this change. Have the asked for changes been made?
