COLUMBIA COLLEGE, FACULTY ORGANIZATION (CCFO)
Report to the College Council
April 7th, 2006
CCFO elections for officer and committee positions are now complete. Our turnout was significantly greater than that seen last year. We are currently in the midst of an election for faculty representatives on the search committee for the LAS Dean and an election to begin the process of selecting a faculty representative on the Board of Trustees.
The Salary/Rank committee hopes to soon meet with members of the Chairs Council to discuss our proposal on merit raises. We hope to have a joint proposal prepared before the end of the academic year. This committee has also begun research on academic rank.
We are pleased that we were able to participate in the interviews with the finalists for the Associate Provost position and that we were able to submit names of faculty to the President for inclusion on the task force, headed by Stephanie Griffin, on employee morale at Columbia College. It is also our hope that faculty and staff representatives will soon be able to meet with the administration and members of the Board of Trustees on developing a "new" pension agreement for all full-time employees of the college.
CCFO's ad hoc committee on Academic Freedom is currently conducting research on: the historical traditions of academic freedom; Columbia College policies relating to academic freedom, privacy and censorship; AAUP statements on academic freedom, privacy and censorship and policies of other institutions. We anticipate that this research will continue for a time and we will report back on this matter when our research is complete.
