COLUMBIA COLLEGE, FACULTY ORGANIZATION (CCFO)
Report to the College Council
October 6th, 2006
August 26th saw CCFO conducting a well-received orientation [led by Elizabeth Davis and Curtis Lawrence] for new full-time faculty. This was followed up by a reception for these same faculty on August 28th. CCFO has also completed its election for representatives on the F &PA Dean Search Committee. We have listed, in addition on our web site, notes from our general meeting of September 19th and information relevant to previous college debate/vote on academic rank.
The CCFO President met with the Chair of the Chairs Council on October 3rd. Items discussed included academic rank, implementation of the teaching load adjustment plan and college-wide committees. A meeting between the CCFO President and the Director of Faculty and Staff Recruitment occurred on October 4th where discussion of minority hiring was had.
A meeting of the Salary/Rank Committee occurred yesterday and there was a presentation and discussion of the CCFO merit raise proposal [previously presented to the administration] and also academic rank.
The Faculty Liaison Committee to the Board of Trustees Committee will have a meeting next week and the Academic Freedom Committee will have a meeting on October 16th.
Preliminary results from our survey distributed to full-time faculty indicated that the five items of greatest significance, in order, are: additional/space facilities in departments; improving benefits (health care, pension); additional full-time faculty; addressing salary compression and implementation of teaching load adjustment.
