Advise Columbia
| Dear Faculty Advisor: Welcome to Advise Columbia. This site has been created to assist you in your role as academic advisor to students in your department. In the site’s pages and links, you will find a wealth of information about
Columbia specifically and academic advising in general. I believe that
it will answer the question you may have in helping your advisees
navigate their college careers and arrive expeditiously at graduation. Think of this site as the electronic equivalent of your advising handbook—with the extra advantage that they can be updated whenever an important change occurs in policies, procedures, or contact information. |
This site is divided into four main sections.
1. Basics of Faculty Advising:
Quick references to help new advisors get started and continuing advisors get organized.
2. Tools to Help the Advising Process:
General information about the advising experience with links, skills and tools to become a more effective advisor.
3. Referrals and Campus Resources:
Best practices and information specific to Columbia departments, requirements and curriculum.
4. FAQ's and Advisor's Quiz:
As you know, academic advising is an integral part of your role as a member of Columbia’s faculty and an important element in student success and satisfaction. I encourage you to consult Advise Columbia frequently and to familiarize yourself with its information and ideas. Your work as a faculty advisor is vitally important to Columbia’s students, and we want you to have the support you need to fulfill this important role.
Cordially,
Louise Love
Vice President for Academic Affairs
In addition, we will have a monthly or bi-monthly feature called Spotlight on Advising where we will highlight how different departments support advisors here at Columbia College in Chicago.
Advise Columbia is funded in part by a Title III Grant from the US Department of Education.
