Dreamweaver (5 Week Course)
The Dreamweaver Course is designed to give beginners solid foundations in creating web pages using the industry-leading web design application: Dreamweaver. Dreamweaver provides a powerful combination of visual layout tools, application development features, and code editing support. With robust features for CSS-based design and integration, Dreamweaver enables web designers and developers to easily create and manage any website.
Week 1
Basic Web Site Architecture - Pages and Directories inside Root Folder
Working with a Server - FTP and other client and server side apps and concepts
Domain Name Systems - Understanding the Domain Name System
Open up Dreamweaver and Explore the Interface - Choosing a Workspace
Setting up the Dreamweaver FTP client - Entering the ftp settings and testing the connection with the server
Create an index.html page and global style sheet - Attach the index.html page to the global.css document
Add some styling including body and h1 tags.
Discuss web page sizes and different techniques for sizing (fixed width and elastic) - Examine some common web sites and analyze how the web designer created them.
Discuss fonts and how browsers handle fonts
Week 2
Adding Text and Tables - Discuss and review web sites that use tables - Eastic and Fixed Width
Managing graphic files in Photoshop - when to use gif, jpeg, png and bmp file formats for the web
Photoshop techniques for the web - gradients/repeat x, transparencies
Building a web gallery using Bridge and/or Lightbox
Adding Links - Internal, external, mail and null
Creating an Imagemap
Adding Audio and Video files - linked and embedded
Using the Files Panel
Week 3
Creating and adding a simple Flash Banner to your site
Working with Javascript Behaviors - Swap Image Restore, Open New Browser window and text effects
Primary Selectors for CSS
Working with CSS - Understanding the syntax and structure of styled elements
What’s the difference between external, embedded and inline styling
Working with DIVS
Working with AP DIVS
Week 4
Working with table menus, div menus and spry menus (vertical, horizontal, tabbed, accordion, and collapsible) - Site Navigation
XML Data sets and using the Spry Ajax Framework
Creating and Using Library Assets
Working with Frames and Frame sets
Week 5
Creating a PHP guest sign-in page
The FORM insert tools
Creating a Favicon for your web pages
Using the Snippets feature
Validating Markup
Testing your site on different browsers
Using the Web Developer toolbar

By signing up for the Dreamweaver Workshop Series you are signing up for all 5 3-hour long workshops. Only participants who attend all 5 workshops will earn the CIT Certificate. Part-time faculty who complete all 5 workshops will also receive a stipend in the amount of $200.00. Full-time staff who also teach part-time in Columbia do not qualify for a stipend.
