Week 1 Moodle Overview
The first workshop is presented from the viewpoint of a student in a
Moodle Class. Faculty become acquainted with the Moodle interface and
layout. They learn about different types of resources and activities
by experiencing those activities.
Concepts presented:
* What is a user profile and how to edit it
* What are different class settings
* Looking at different class set-ups
* Teacher/Student mode
* Editing Mode
* Adding a participant to class
* Resources and Activities
o Class Announcements
o Syllabus
o Glossary
o Handouts, web links, books
o Off-Line Assignment
o Text Assignment
o Upload Assignment
o Choice Activity
o Online Quiz
o Discussion forums
* Grading
* Activity Reports
* Managing Blocks
* Back-up and Restore
Week 2 Building Your Class - Resources
This is a hands-on workshop where you will actually begin to put
learning resources and objects into your Moodle class framework. You
will bring digital copies of your documents, images, video clips, etc.
to work with in the workshop.
Hands-on activities will include:
* Uploading and linking to files
* Creating links to web sites
* Creating labels
* What to do with your syllabus?
* Creating a glossary
* How to create a book
* Customizing your layout
o adding and moving blocks
Week 3 Building your Class - Activities
This is a hands-on workshop where you will begin to put both
individual and collaborative activities into your class. You will
bring digital copies of tests, quizzes, discussion topics to work with
in the workshop
Hands-on Activities will include:
* Setting up Class Groups
* Creating discussion forums
* Off-line Assignment
* Text Assignment
* Upload Assignment
* Online Quizzes and tests and creating questions
* Choice
* Attendance
Week 4 Moodle Gradebook, Reports and Statistics
This is a hands-on workshop where you will learn how to set up your
Moodle Gradebook and where you will learn how to access the various
reports and user-statistics that are available to you in Moodle.
* Setting up the Gradebook
* Gradebook Views - Grader and User Reports
* Simple Weighted Mean of Grades - Using Points as your Weighting
Method (Moodle default)
* Weighted Mean of Grades - Using Categories and Percentages as
your Grading Method
* Adding Grade Items
* Extra Credit Assignments
* Override Grades - Entering Grades in the Gradebook
* Using Scales - Grading Based upon your Course Rubric (Learning
Outcomes???)
* Reports and Statistics
Week 5 Advanced Moodle
Here's where you get to play with some of the bells and whistles!
Add some of the features that will make your class more engaging -
Concepts presented will include:
* Review Course Page Blocks
* Adding RSS Feeds
* Creating HTML Blocks (adding Google Gadgets!)
* Show Books and Lessons - What is the difference?
* Dimdim Web Meeting
* Add questions for Tests and Quizzes
* Show how to embed audio and video - codecs (FLV is best for
video)
* How to embed your own PPT and Keynote slide shows -
(Slideshare.net or iSpring for PC that converts PPT to Flash)
* Go to practice course and do the following:
o Make the course 3 Topics long
o Add a web page with a couple of lines of text and a link
to a web site in Week/Topic 0 Summary
o Add one of each of the following assignments to your
course:
+ Online text
+ Upload a Single File
+ Offline Activity
o Add 1 Forum to each Topic (3 total)
o Add 1 Glossary to Topic 2
o Add 1 Quiz to Topic 3
o Add continuity clues to each Topic
* Review Gradebook
