Scholarship of Teaching & Learning

The Center For Teaching Excellence is committed to supporting the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL). Since 2003, the CTE has participated in an Carnegie Academy for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (CASTL) initiative led by Rockhurst University, intended to mentor newer scholars of teaching and learning. This initiative led to the design and creation of the National CASTL Institute, which was hosted by Columbia College Chicago in 2005, 2006, and 2007 before moving to Creighton University.

The 2008 theme, Professional Dispositions and Values, allows for exploration of the attributes, values, and habits of mind that allow reflective inquiry, while encouraging us to move beyond considerations of professionalism and professional competencies to those qualities of our students' characters and moral imaginations.

The Center for Teaching Excellence is a resource for faculty members (individuals or teams) who are interested in submitting a proposal to the CASTL Institute. Please contact Lott Hill for further information at lhill@colum.edu.
