If you love to dance, come learn firsthand from the choreographers and dancers featured during our season. Learn a variety of dance techniques, meet other artists from Chicago and explore different perspectives and styles in movement with live accompaniment by Chicago musicians.

The basic Butoh form is the “Suijakutai” (collapsed body). Based on the Suijakutai, students will practice standing up from the lying position while being conscious of every part of the body. David Roussève’s work fuses text, movement, and visual imagery to create a deep dialogue with the viewer. This composition workshop encourages students to explore unique ways of developing vocal and movement material and layering the material together. Towards developing their own choreographic voices, dancers will be encouraged to think of the fundamentals of choreography—space, time, vocabulary—and to use them in surprising ways. show info...

Dancers will engage in aspects of Delfos’s technique, exploring relationships between and the management of energy and body dynamics. Working with specific impulses, focus will be on the generation of more organic and free flowing movement, as well as extensive consciousness of the body in relation to tridimensional space. DanceMasters is a program of The Dance Center’s division of Community Outreach and Education (COE). Working to increase understanding and appreciation for contemporary dance, COE programs also include workshops, residency activities, lectures and special events planning in conjunction with community partners.
