2011-12 DanceMasters Classes

Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company

Taught by Company Member Janet Wong

Tuesday, September 27, 2011 * 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

at Lou Conte Dance Studio, The Hubbard Street Dance Center

1147 West Jackson Boulevard, Chicago

Designed for strong pre-professional and professional dancers, this class will share the style and movement sensibility developed by Bill T. Jones and Janet Wong. Together, we will cultivate precise awareness of the skeleton, its weight, and its movement potential, as well as the ability to cover space in movement. Values from modern, postmodern, and classical traditions will be integrated and freely drawn from. We’ll also focus on remaining a thinking, feeling human being that makes choices with genuine consequences throughout the process of moving. Intelligent, challenging physicality will be the point of departure for these investigations.

The technique is flexible, not codified, and helps students respond to physical challenges as well as develop mental acuity. Students in the class are expected to have a strong sense of center and will learn to display clear form using the maximum range of the spine and torso.
