Shirley Mordine’s artfully crafted dances convey wit, sensitivity and a flair for the theatrical. They speak with choreographic authority, and her company interprets them with articulate technique.”

Mordine & Co., eight dancers strong, continues to sparkle with the richness of her choreography.”

Shirley Mordine launched The Dance Center’s performance series in 1974, four years after she founded The Dance Center’s academic department. Four decades later, she’s back on The Dance Center stage with a revival of I Haven’t Gone There... (2010). Inspired by Commedia del Arte, the piece features six performers and four musicians who, like troubadours, lure the audience on a journey to unknown places, with unexpected encounters. Its music is composed by Mark Messing, performed live by members of the maverick marching band Mucca Pazza with text by Bryan Saner of the former Goat Island Performance Group. Exploring the increasing experience of simultaneity, All at Once/Acts of Renewal is inspired by the ability to quickly process a deluge of information in the digital age. Renowned composer Shawn Decker’s original score includes a montage of recognizable music from different eras and genres.
