Scheduling an Appointment
How to schedule an appointment
All appointments are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis and are subject to both FCSC staff and classroom availability. Appointments can be scheduled for any length of time starting at 30 minutes and lasting up to 3 hours. They can be arranged Mondays-Thursdays from 9:30am-4:30pm; times outside of this are sometimes possible, but they must be specially arranged. Please read the options below and choose the best one to fit your needs before contacting us.
- Individual and Group Tours: This includes a guided tour of the facility conducted by either the Collections Manager or the FCSC Graduate Assistant. Please specify if you would like to view garments from the collection in addition to the tour.
- Tours must be scheduled at least 48 hours in advance.
- You may contact either the Collections Manager or the FCSC Graduate Assistant.
- Individual and Group Visits: Individuals and groups visits must be scheduled in one of our classroom spaces located on the 8th floor of 618 South Michigan Avenue. Gloves will be provided for visitors when handling the garments or other artifacts (magazines, pattern, etc.). You may also request website printouts for the pieces you have selected, if available.
- Individual and group visits must be scheduled at least 5 business days in advance.
- You may contact either the Collections Manager or the FCSC Graduate Assistant.
- Visitors should try to select garments from our website before the appointment is confirmed. If you are not able to find what you are looking for online, please contact our staff for more information.
- Class Projects/Assignments: Teachers often like to work the FCSC collection into class projects and assignments. While this is the best way for students to become familiar with the collection and how to do proper research, it takes the most time to set up.
- Teachers must contact the Collections Manager at least one month prior to the project/assignment due date to discuss options and specifics.
How to view library books (non-archival material)
- Library books can be viewed at the FCSC during open hours.
- Books cannot be checked out and are treated like the reference section of any library.
- All books are cataloged and searchable through the Columbia College Chicago’s library website, http://www.lib.colum.edu/. Any book listed as “Library Location: Fashion Stacks” means that it is located at the FCSC.
