In 2009, the Columbia College Chicago Impact Award was presented to native Chicagoan Jeff Garlin (Curb Your Enthusiasm). The inaugural Alumni Spotlight Award was presented to director and writer Charles Robert Carner ('79), the Student of the Year award was presented to Samantha Garrison ('09), and the Speaker of the Year Award was presented to guest lecturer and screenwriter Zak Penn (The Incredible Hulk, X-Men).
