Conversations in the Arts: Patti Smith

Patti Smith visited Columbia College Chicago on November 30th for Conversations in the Arts: The School of Fine and Performing Arts lecture series. Terri Hemmert, WXRT-FM radio personality and Columbia adjunct faculty member, interviewed Smith about her influence in music, literature, and the visual arts. Patti Smith is an American singer-songwriter, poet, and visual artist. One of the precursors to the punk rock movement, Patti Smith has impacted music since 1975. She has published four volumes of poetry, co-wrote the play Cowboy Mouth with playwright Sam Shepard, and recently won the National Book Award for Just Kids, a memoir about her relationship with photographer Robert Mapplethorpe. Her visual art has appeared in several renowned museums including the Museum Eki in Kyoto and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. President's Club donors enjoyed an exclusive reception with Smith after the event.
