Data Warehouse

WELCOME TO COLUMBIA DATA WAREHOUSE!

What is Data Warehouse?

The Columbia Data Warehouse is a collection of (transactional OASIS) data gathered and organized so that it can be easily analyzed, extracted, synthesized, and otherwise used for the purposes of further understanding the data and decision-making process.

Traditional database systems (e.g. OASIS, currently in use at Columbia College Chicago) are designed to support typical day-to-day operations via individual user transactions (e.g. registering for a course, entering a financial transaction, etc). Such systems are generally called operational or transactional systems.

A data warehouse complements an existing operational system and is therefore designed and subsequently used quite differently. While an operational system is transaction or process-oriented, a data warehouse is subject-oriented, geared toward flexible analytical processing of high volumes of business data.

How to access CDW reporting tool?

Using a reporting tool called Hyperion Interactive Reporting, you can retrieve the information from the database into a static report format, ad-hoc screen format with pre-set filters, easy to use dial buttons and drop down lists, or pivot table format which allows the user to slice and dice the information as needed from the customized dashboard (home page).

The Web-based Hyperion Interactive Reporting tool is accessible from IRIS home page (https://iris.colum.edu/default.aspx) under the Launch Pad section and click on Data Warehouse/Hyperion.

Security is enforced in accordance with the College's Data Access Policy.

To request access to the CDW, please contact the data warehouse team at ccc-datawarehouse@colum.edu.
