Institutional Performance Survey
Institutional Performance Survey Results
The Institutional Performance Survey (IPS) was developed by the National Center for Higher Education Management Systems (NCHEMS). This survey instrument is designed to provide useful and timely information about institutional performance and to help develop strategies for improvement. It is based on extensive empirical research and has been used at over 300 institutions to accurately reflect the dynamics of an institution and the perceptions held by its members. A full description of the IPS is available on the NCHEMS website here.
The IPS was chosen by the President as an integral component of an effort, initiated by the College Council, to provide an opportunity for Columbia faculty and staff to participate in the evaluation of the College and its leadership. The survey was implemented under the aegis of a 15-member Leadership Advisory Team, the members of which were appointed by the President following a campus-wide nominating process.
Methodology: The IPS was distributed to 650 randomly selected recipients, drawn from the ranks of Columbia College Chicago's full-time and part-time faculty and full-time staff. The rosters of all three populations were randomized via stratified random sampling, with the goal of selecting an equal percentage of each group. Approximately 53% of the members of each population were randomly selected to receive the survey.
Of the 650 recipients, 250 returned their completed surveys to NCHEMS, with approximately 39% of recipients from each of the three populations (38.5% overall) participating. Click here for the complete demographic breakdown.
