String Fest

***REGISTRATION FOR STRING FEST IS NOW CLOSED***

String Fest is an opportunity for string students of all ages and levels to participate in a positive performing opportunity. Each participant will be assigned to a recital according to level. Each recital will be approximately one hour in length and family and friends are invited to attend. Participant evaluations will be presented by adjudicators during the recital and each performer will receive a certificate of accomplishment. 


Location

String Fest will take place in the Recital Hall and selected teaching studios at Sherwood, The Community Music School at Columbia College Chicago, 1312 S. Michigan Avenue in Chicago.


Date

Sunday, February 26, 2012, 10am-5pm. The application deadline is January 27, 2012.


Repertoire Requirements

Participants must perform two contrasting pieces, not to exceed fifteen minutes combined.  Movements from a multi-movement work (such as a sonata) should be counted as separate selections. 


Divisions:

  • Division 1: Elementary/High School (ages 4 – 18)
  • Division 2: Adult


Festival Levels:

  • Group I:  2 or fewer years of study
  • Group II:  3-5 years of study
  • Group III: 6-7 years of study
  • Group IV: 8 or more years of study


Fees

Solo Participant: $28
Chamber Ensemble (duo, trio, quartet): $35 for entire group


How To Register

REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT FOR THE 2012 STRING FEST IS A TWO STEP PROCESS

1. Register for the event by clicking this link and completing the online form: String Fest Application.
- Each teacher should submit one application for their entire studio. Individual applicants may not register on their own, only teachers may register their students.
- Registration by phone or in person at Sherwood is NOT accepted.
- Any changes or corrections to the information submitted on the application should be sent to Martine Benmann at mbenmann@colum.edu.

2. Once you complete the event registration form above, you must pay for the event. Teachers may pay for their student's application in one of three ways:
   1. Online through our online registration center
      (You will need to create an account before registering if you do not already have one.)
   2. By phone at (312) 369-3100.
   3. In person at our front desk during regular business hours.
- Please note that we cannot accept multiple checks from your students. If you are paying by check, please have one check made out to Sherwood for the full amount.
