How long have you been at Sherwood?  Since 2009

About Seth: Seth performs in Chicago, New York City and across the midwest with Más Trueno and formerly with Maschina and the Daniel Givens Age Ensemble.

What do you want to impart to your students through your teaching?
Music is a joy, a healthy gift of humanity and it is available to everyone.

Are there specific methods or techniques that you use in your teaching that may be important to share with prospective students?
Healthy singing is connected to an awareness of your body and self.  Growth as a musician comes from expanding your exposure to traditions, theory, style, listening to music and playing with others.

What do you enjoy most about teaching?
Like music, education is best when it is a great conversation.

Briefly describe your musical pursuits outside Sherwood.
I am a singer, pianist, keyboardist, songwriter and dancer.  I currently perform many international dance styles as well as soul and jazz.

What is your earliest musical experience or best musical memory?
My grandmother, Fannie Hitsky, recently asked me to sing a song for her.  It was a pleasure and an honor to fulfill this request.

Please describe one of your favorite teachers or mentors.
Cantor Louis Klein was my first voice teacher.  He didn't discuss much technique with me, but I learned more listening to his beautiful voice than I could learn from any explanation.

Who is your favorite composer or what is your favorite musical period?
I love the music that has been inherited from all periods and ages but reserve a special love for music that is being played and enjoyed in our lives right now.
