SUZUKI INSTRUCTION (AGES 3 TO 12)

Developed by Japanese music educator Shinichi Suzuki, this instrument learning method is designed to teach children as young as three. Through the Suzuki method:
•Young children master basic musical skills, improve listening ability, and acquire physical comfort with their instrument and with performing.
•Intermediate and advanced students learn to read music, improve technical proficiency, and play skill-specific repertoire.
•The individual lesson and group class format motivates children to excel in their musical studies and celebrate their accomplishments with their peers, while actively involving parents in their child’s music education.

Enrollment requires attendance by the student and a parent or caregiver at a weekly individual lesson and a weekly group class for students at the same level of ability.  Parents new to Sherwood and the Suzuki method are required to enroll in a four-week parent class that introduces them to the Suzuki method and their important role in their child’s education before children can attend their first lesson. Individual lessons and group classes for each instrument and level are determined by mutual agreement between the teacher and participating families. Sherwood’s comprehensive program offers instruction in six Suzuki instruments.
