What do you want to impart to your students through your teaching?

Give them the skills to be their own teacher when practicing at home.

Are there specific methods or techniques that you use in your teaching that may be
important to share with prospective students?

All beginning students will receive the same foundation building studies, more advanced students
will gain from studying both jazz and classical music, while adult hobbyists will be given the opportunity to focus on the style of their choosing.

What do you enjoy most about teaching?
I gain satisfaction knowing that aside from exposure to wonderful music, studying music bluntly reinforces the correlation between success and hard work.

Briefly describe your musical pursuits outside Sherwood:

I am an instructor at the Old Town School of Folk Music as well as the Merit School of Music and
I perform jazz and classical guitar in various formats at assorted venues in the Chicago area.

What is your earliest musical experience or memory?
Studying saxophone in elementary school.

Please describe one of your favorite teachers or mentors:
Luis Zea, a master classical guitarist and musician who appreciated music of all styles.

Who is your favorite composer, or what is your favorite musical period?

Albeniz to Zappa and everything in between.
