How long have you been on Faculty at Sherwood Conservatory of Music?
Since 2005.

What do you want to impart to your students through your teaching?
I want them to feel a sense of accomplishment; I would like them to have fun and appreciate music so they might continue that enjoyment throughout their lives.

Are there specific methods or techniques that you use in your teaching that may be important to share with prospective students?
I try to tailor my teaching to the individual needs of each student, but I do emphasize proper air use and knowledge of scales!

What do you enjoy most about teaching?
I enjoy relating to each student and helping them improve their skills in order to enjoy themselves more when playing the horn.

Briefly describe your musical pursuits outside Sherwood.
I enjoy playing chamber music with my wind quintet, Quintet Attacca, and brass quintet, Third Coast Brass. I also teach at Lemont High School and St. Joseph's College.

What is your earliest musical experience or best musical memory?
My earliest musical experience was taking piano lessons from my Mom. My best musical experience was playing Mahler's 2nd Symphony at a summer festival. I was playing with a wonderful group of players and the soloists for the last movement were incredible. The end of the piece was so moving! I could barely concentrate because it was so exciting and beautiful.

Please describe one of your favorite teachers or mentors.
All of my teachers have been great, but my favorite was my very first horn teacher. She was a lot of fun, even while covering the basics, and would take me on gigs with her, including playing in a German band and in a pit for the musical Oliver!

Who is your favorite composer?
My favorite composer to play is Gustav Mahler because of the great horn parts - no matter what part you're playing it's great fun! My favorite composer to listen to is Samuel Barber because of his wonderful melodies and interesting harmonies.
