Re-Evaluating your Financial Aid File

  • If you believe your financial aid file should be re-evaluated because your FAFSA does not reflect your current situation, please read the following information and contact the Student Financial Services office to discuss your situation and other options for resolving your balance at Customer Service Options.
  • Students’ financial aid eligibility is determined by, but not limited to:
    1. Student’s dependency status
    2. Family’s annual gross income reported on the previous year’s tax forms
    3. Student’s Cost of Attendance
    4. Number of members in the household
    5. Number of college students in the household
  • A drastic change to any of these factors may affect a student’s financial aid eligibility.  If you have special circumstances that were not listed on your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), Student Financial Services may be able to re-evaluate your need for the current year.
  • Possible special circumstances that may result in a re-evaluation of need include change in income resulting from unemployment, disability/retirement, and lump sum disbursement, and separation/divorce, death of spouse or parent. Change in your dependency status resulting from death of parent(s), parental abuse or abandonment, and increase in cost of attendance.
  • Ineligible circumstances include parent’s unwillingness to help pay for college or provide information for the FAFSA or required verification documents, car payments/insurance, medical insurance premiums, consumer debt (e.g. credit cards), chapter 7 bankruptcy, high mortgage or rent payments, income changes outside of the adjustable income year; elementary or secondary tuition expenses for siblings (dependent students) or children (independent students).
