Achievement Award
For Incoming Freshmen
The Achievement Award was established to recognize the exceptional academic achievement of incoming freshman students.

Note: Priority consideration is given to students who are admitted and have completed the FAFSA by February 01, 2013
The Achievement Award is open to:
- Exceptional high school seniors entering for the first time in the Fall 2013 semester
- Students who have earned a cumulative high school grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent)
- Students who have been admitted to Columbia
- Students who demonstrate financial need through a completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
Award based on:
- Academic achievement and financial need
Renewable award amount:
- $5,000 to $12,000 per academic year
Notification of the award:
- Recipients will be notified by the scholarship committee by mail by March 31, 2013. We regret that we are unable to give information regarding the committee's decisions over the telephone or by email.
No separate application is required.
- All incoming freshman who are admitted and who have completed a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by February 01, 2013 are automatically considered.
- Awards are based on review of applicant's admissions file and demonstration of financial need through a completed FAFSA.
- The Achievement Award is automatically renewable for up to four consecutive years provided the recipient:
- is enrolled full-time each semester
- maintains a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average
- continues to complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) every January for the subsequent academic year and this application must demonstrate continued financial need
- does not interrupt enrollment
- Award amount ranges from $6,000 to $12,000 per academic year, awarded half in Fall and half in Spring
- The Achievement Award is applied toward tuition
- Award may not be used toward independent study abroad programs
- Achievement Award recipients from outside the Chicago Metropolitan area are required to live on campus during their first year at Columbia
- This award is based on academic and financial need information provided to the college at the time of admission. Any subsequent, additional, or clarifying data that significantly alters this information may make a recipient ineligible to receive this award
- The rules governing other sources of financial aid (federal, state, institutional and other grants, gifts, or loans) will apply
