Ellen Stone Belic Research Award

The Ellen Stone Belic Research Award application is available online through your OASIS portal. Only complete scholarship applications submitted by the deadline will be reviewed by the scholarship committee.

Please follow all directions carefully. Students must submit the following materials to make a complete Ellen Stone Belic Research Award application - there is one part to the application:

Submit a two-page statement on why you deserve and need this award. You should also discuss the value of research and highlight the necessity of going abroad. 

Your essay must be double-spaced and must include your name and OASIS ID number in the upper right-hand corner of the page. Please upload your response in .pdf, .doc, or .docx format.

Access online application form through OASIS portal:

1. Applicant Portal: You may scroll through the list of scholarship programs until you locate the Ellen Stone Belic Research Award, and then select the "Start Application" link.


2. Scholarship Search: Select the "Search Scholarships" link in the navigation on the left-hand side of the page. You may search for the Ellen Stone Belic Research Award by using category, keyword, or description/name search. Once you locate the program, select the "More Info" link to be taken to the application form.

The Ellen Stone Belic Research Award is made possible by Board of Trustee and former faculty member, Ellen Stone Belic, who has taught counseling courses and guest lectured for the department for over a decade.

• Application must be submitted by October 30, 2012 (11:59 pm) for review by the committee
• Maximum award of this one-semester scholarship is $2500
• The award is applied toward MA thesis research conducted abroad
• Recipients must be second year Columbia College Chicago Dance Movement Therapy and Counseling students registered in Thesis Seminar, who are proposing to conduct graduate thesis research in a country other than the United States
• Before any research is conducted, it must be approved by the Dance/Movement Therapy and Counseling Departmental Research Committee, and if human subjects are involved, by the Columbia College Chicago Institutional Review Board
• Research and travel must occur in the year the award is granted
• Applications are reviewed by representatives of the Departmental Thesis Committee, and the Ellen Stone Belic Foundation
• This scholarship is not renewable
• Scholarship may not be used toward any independent study abroad programs
• Recipients may be asked to submit a short biography describing their background and life goals that will be shared with donors; portions of the essay may also be used for publication
• The rules and regulations governing other sources of financial aid (federal, state, institutional and other grants, gifts, or loans) will apply
• Columbia College Chicago reserves the right to withhold the award in any year in which, at its sole discretion of the Scholarship Committee, suitable candidates cannot be found among applicants
