Evelyn, Charles & Lucian Carter Endowed Music Scholarship

No separate application is required for the Evelyn, Charles & Lucian Carter Endowed Music Scholarship:

• Students are nominated by Music Department faculty.

The Evelyn, Charles and Lucian Carter Scholarship is named for the parents and brother of Columbia College Chicago President, Warrick L. Carter. His mother, Evelyn Carter, was a music major graduating from Virginia State College in 1935. During her professional career, she was a public school music teacher, private piano teacher, church organist, and community choir director. His father Charles was not a musician but clearly enjoyed and appreciated jazz and other popular music. His brother Lucian was a saxophonist and avid collector of jazz recordings.

• Maximum amount of this one-year scholarship is $2500, awarded half in Fall 2013 and half in Spring 2014
• The award is applied toward tuition costs
• Students must be enrolled as full-time students at the time of application and must maintain full-time enrollment during the 2013-14 academic year
• Scholarship may not be used toward independent study abroad programs. Recipients who enroll in an independent study abroad program will forfeit their scholarship during the semester spent abroad
• Recipients will be asked to submit a short biography describing their background and life goals that will be shared with donors; portions of the essay may also be used for publication
• The rules and regulations governing other sources of financial aid (federal, state, institutional and other grants, gifts, or loans) will apply
• Columbia College Chicago reserves the right to withhold the award in any year in which, at the sole discretion of the scholarship committee, suitable candidates cannot be found among applicants
