Howard Mendelsohn is president of Howard Mendelsohn & Company, a Chicago public relations consulting firm. After attending the University of Illinois where he studied business administration, he graduated from Columbia College Chicago with a bachelor's degree in speech. He has enjoyed a long and colorful career during which he has earned a reputation as a valued Chicago civic leader and a giant within his industry.
Howard Mendelsohn first became involved in broadcast media as an announcer and disc jockey for KAAA, a Red Wing, Minnesota radio station and was named the play-by-play announcer for radio and television for National Roller Derby. He eventually moved to New York City where he announced three games a week on ABC.
After returning to his native Chicago, Howard Mendelsohn worked in public relations and served as head of public relations for CBS, WBBM-TV Channel 2. In 1957, Mr. Mendelsohn founded his namesake company which over the years served many large corporations as well as top-tier celebrity clients, including Lucille Ball, Jack Benny, Vic Damone, Sammy Davis, Jr., George Gobel, Marlene Dietrich, Phyllis Diller and Merv Griffin.
As the co-founder of Chicago Communications Day, his yearly luncheon has raised funds for Columbia College Chicago students since 1975. As a member of the Publicity Club of Chicago for twenty-four years, he served as president, vice president, and member of the board of directors. He served on the board and as vice president of the Variety Club of Illinois for twelve years and was a member for twenty-two years.
Howard Mendelsohn is a member of the Columbia College Chicago Board of Trustees.
