Jeremy Jefferies Hill Scholarship

The Jeremy Jefferies Hill Scholarship application is available online through your OASIS portal. Only complete scholarship applications submitted by the deadline will be reviewed by the scholarship committee.

Please follow all directions carefully. Students must submit the following materials to make a complete Jeremy Jefferies Hill Scholarship application - there are four parts to the application:

In one- to two-page essay, address the following:

• Describe your academic goals, career plans, and desired impact in the field of acoustics.
• Outline your relevant accomplishments to date and how they may have inspired you to seek further education in acoustics.

Provide any details regarding your engagement in one or more of the following activities:

• Presentation of work in the field of acoustics to a refereed audience such as the Acoustical Society of American or the Audio Engineering Society
• Substantial completion of a paper to the aforementioned organizations or to another refereed publication.
• Enrollment in an academic program for preparation of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE)

Two letters of recommendation are required. Recommenders should be addressing the applicant's merit and need based fitness for the scholarship as well as their potential to pursue graduate studies in acoustics at some point in the future.

Note: Remember to contact your recommender directly before providing his/her information on the application. Be sure to give faculty members as much time as possible to write the letters. Requests made at the last minute are often difficult for faculty to fulfill by the deadline.

A current Student Aid Report (SAR) must be on file. To receive an SAR, students must complete a financial aid application (FAFSA), available after January 1st of each year.

1. Applicant Portal: You may scroll through the list of scholarship programs until you locate the Jeremy Jefferies Hill Scholarship, and then select the "Start Application" link.


2. Scholarship Search: Select the "Search Scholarships" link in the navigation on the left-hand side of the page. You may search for the Jeremy Jefferies Hill Scholarship by using category, keyword, or description/name search. Once you locate the program, select the "More Info" link to be taken to the application form.

The Jeremy Jefferies Hill Memorial Scholarship honors the memory of Jeremy DJ “SPYDRR” Hill and is made possible thanks to the generosity of Jeremy’s grandfather, Mr. Donald Perkins. Jeremy, who passed away in 2007, epitomized the accomplishments and potential of graduates from the Acoustics Program at the Audio Arts and Acoustics Department, Columbia College Chicago. His interests and promise for advanced work in architectural acoustics were exemplified in a 2005 presentation to the Acoustical Society of America and in his unanimous acceptance to one of the nation’s premier graduate programs in acoustics at the University of Florida at Gainesville. Despite the academic demands of both undergraduate and graduate programs, Jeremy also maintained a strong, active presence in music, producing albums and CDs both as a performer and a DJ. Honoring his passions and accomplishments, the scholarship is aimed at fostering the spirit of possibilities associated with advanced education in architectural acoustics with an emphasis on the study of spaces dedicated to musical production and/or performance.

• Application must be submitted by March 01, 2013 (11:59 pm) for review by the committee
• Maximum amount for this one-semester award is $2000, awarded in Spring 2013
• The award is applied toward tuition and fee costs
• Students must be at full-time enrollment status at the time of application and disbursement of the award
• Students who are not selected to receive the award may compete in subsequent years provided they continue to fulfill the eligibility criteria
• Scholarship may not be used toward independent study or study abroad programs
• Recipients will be asked to submit a short biography describing their background and life goals, which will be shared with donors; portions of the essay may also be used for publication
• The rules and regulations governing other sources of financial aid (federal, state, institutional and other grants, gifts, or loans) will apply
• Columbia College Chicago reserves the right to withhold the award in any year in which, at the sole discretion of the scholarship committee, suitable candidates cannot be found among applicants
