The John Schultz and Betty Shiflett Story Workshop Scholarship application is available online through your OASIS portal. Only complete scholarship applications submitted by the deadline will be reviewed by the scholarship committee.
Please follow all directions carefully. Students must submit the following materials to make a complete John Schultz and Betty Shiflett Story Workshop Scholarship application - there is one part to the application:
PART 1: WRITING SAMPLE
Submit up to 30 pages of fiction (short story or novel excerpt) or creative nonfiction.
Your manuscript should be professional in appearance, in the manner in which you would submit for publication (12-point font). Please include the title and page numbers on the manuscript. Do not include your name. Manuscripts should be work first written, or substantially revised, in the past year. Students are strongly advised to seek counsel from recent instructors about what material to submit.

There are two ways to locate the John Schultz and Betty Shiflett Story Workshop Scholarship application:
- Applicant Portal: You may scroll through the list of scholarship programs until you locate the John Schultz and Betty Shiflett Story Workshop Scholarship, and then select the "Start Application" link.
- Scholarship Search: Select the "Search Scholarships" link in the navigation on the left-hand side of the page. Once you locate the program, select the "More Info" link to be taken to the application form.
The John Schultz and Betty Shiflett Story Workshop Scholarship fund, established in 1997, was the idea of John Schultz and Betty Shiflett, Emeritus Professors and distinguished teachers of writing in both the graduate and undergraduate Fiction Writing programs at Columbia College Chicago. Their generous and substantial individual donations seeded the Scholarship Fund in its initial year and were matched with donations from alumni, faculty, staff, and students, as well as from friends of the Fiction Writing Department.
