Open Doors Scholarship
for incoming freshmen
The Open Doors Scholarship was established to bridge the gap between state and federal financial aid programs and the cost of tuition and fees for Chicago Public School graduates.

Note: Priority consideration is given to students who are admitted and have completed the FAFSA by March 15, 2013
The Open Doors Scholarship is open to:
- High school seniors who will graduate from a Chicago Public High School in 2013
- Students who have earned a minimum cumulative high school grade point average of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent)
- Students who have been admitted to Columbia
- Students who demonstrate financial need through a completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
Award based on:
- Academic achievement and financial need
Renewable award amount:
- Up to $7,000 - $8,000 (awarded half in Fall and half in Spring) for up to four years
No separate application is required.
- All incoming freshman who are admitted and who have completed a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 15, 2013 are automatically considered.
- Awards are based on review of applicant's admissions file and demonstration of financial need through a completed FAFSA.
- The Open Doors Scholarship is automatically renewable for up to four consecutive years provided the recipient:
- is enrolled full-time each semester
- maintains a minimum 2.5 cumulative grade point average
- continues to apply for financial aid each year by completing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- does not interrupt enrollment
- Award amount is up to $7,000 - $8,000 per academic year, awarded half in Fall and half in Spring
- The Open Doors Scholarship is applied toward tuition
- Award may not be used toward independent study abroad programs
- The rules governing other sources of financial aid (federal, state, institutional and other grants, gifts, or loans) will apply
