Mission

The Student Government Association of Columbia College Chicago represents the student voice and endeavors to construct a more perfect union.  It serves as a liaison between students and the faculty and staff, and administration in order to ensure the welfare of our unique and diverse art and communication community.  Through leadership and strong representation, it strives to provide students with opportunities to grow academically, artistically, professionally, and personally.

The SGA is now in its sixth year serving Columbia students.  Thanks to the hard work of the dedicated students who make up the SGA, there is now student representation on the CCC Board of Trustees, a Student Center is now in the Campus Master Plan, and there are lockers in departments where they have been needed for many years.  The SGA has donated thousands of dollars to charity including relief efforts related to Hurricane Katrina and WCRX 88.1 FM's Holly Jolly Trolley fundraiser for the Greater Chicago Food Depository.  Additional SGA dollars have been reinvested in the students and allow them to go to seminars and conferences as well as put on performances and events.

The SGA consists of a President, Executive Vice President, VP of Communications, VP of Finance, Student Trustee, 2 RHA Senators, 1 SOC representative, 1 Student Athletics representative, 1 Graduate student, 18 Departmental Senators, 2 commuter senators, and 9 at large senators.  There are non-voting positions as well.

The Student Government Association Task Force was formed in the Spring semester of 2002.  The Task Force was comprised of eight students, one faculty member and two staff members from the Office of Student Leadership.  Students were elected to serve on the Task Force at a spring meeting of the Student Organization Council last year.  The Task Force has been responsible for attending leadership conferences, meeting with students, staff and administers, and above all, drafting the constitution.
