Click on the SGA Elections 2008 - 2009 for the application and return it to the SGA office ASAP!! Get involved, represent your department and make a difference!!

JOIN AN SGA COMMITTEE!

It's the easiest way to get involved and have your voice heard.  SGA Committees will begin meeting the first week of February.  See a description of the committees!

Election Campaigning begins on April 1st and there will be a workshop at 5pm in the HUB

SGA Report on Academic Advising

  • Passed a new constitution, a budget, and procedures that help the SGA run more effectively and smoothly.
  • Met with Student Communications officials and submitted recommendations for the new "loop" system.
  • Met with Academic Advising officials to collaborate on ways to make the system of advising more effective.
  • Completed several open forums for academic departments.
  • Lobbied and received soap dispensers to be replaced in bathrooms that had not been upgraded.
  • Approved a $5 a semester increase in the Student Health Center fee to provide two more full time counselors.
  • Met with Counseling Services to evaluate what needs remain and how SGA can help the students in need.
  • Executive Board members have met with DePaul's SGA and been in touch with several SGA's throughout the state to build a coalition of support for a Metra student discount.
  • The SGA President has met with Columbia's President, Chief of Staff, Vice President of Student Affairs, and Vice President of Academic Affairs.
  • SGA members have sat in on dozens of college committee meetings to give student input.
  • Met with Campus Safety and Security officials to report student concerns.
  • The SGA Student Affairs Committee is gathering student opinions and input with a Student Census.
  • Created a newsletter to inform students of what we are doing to help them.
  • And we are just getting started!!!

2006-2007 Activities
  • Hosted the American Student Government Association Midwest Regional Conference.
  • Introduced cheaper cans in vending machines as alternatives to more expensive bottles.
  • Guaranteed no new activity fee increases beyond the one coming in Fall ’07.
  • Held forums in 15 departments and one school wide.
  • Contacted regional colleges to build a coalition to lobby for a college student discount on Metra.
  • Drafted a Student Census to gauge student opinion. It will be released Fall ’07.
  • Made suggestions to improve the efficiency of elevators in 624 S. Michigan.
  • Convinced the college to study the cost of a free printing program in open labs and the library.
  • Requested Course Fee disclosure and got the Provost’s office to commit to release a policy on it.
  • Worked with the Provost to have a letter sent to faculty reminding them of the cost of textbooks so only essential texts are required.
  • Worked with Student Financial Services to improve customer service.
  • Organized the State of the College Address with Dr. Carter.
  • Held a successful round of Senate elections for 2007-‘08

Past Accomplishments
  • Establishing representation on the CCC Board of Trustees
  • Getting a Student Center in the CCC Master Plan of future building projects
  • Getting lockers in departments that requested them
  • Donating to charitable causes across campus
  • Funding countless student events and trips to conferences
  • Putting computers in the Underground Cafe (600 S. Michigan basement)
  • Sitting in on committees planning the future of the College
